Saul Bass designs, wrecked
The Grand Prix one seems especially tragic.  This article is a good reminder to me that graphic design history is complicated! These posters were indeed PARTLY created by Bass but may have been extensively messed with.

Calligraphy GIFs

Found an interesting link with a Crazy Cool Calligraphic Collection , featuring some individuals who use slight of hand and ultimate precision to make clean letterforms with split reed and flat nib pens. Check it out, I just about inked my pants.

Contest results

This summer I helped someone who needed to enter a logo design contest at her workplace. What you see is not hers (!), but the winning entry. If you are ever tempted to participate in logo design contests, keep this image as a little reminder of what can go wrong:
- Contests are usually structured so that the organizers are stuck with a finished design, rather than having a chance to work with the designer to develop something successful.
- Those who organize these contests often don't have a clear idea of what they want, or how they will decide upon a winner.
- Those who organize these contests are asking all but the winning designers to work for free, essentially. They don't usually have a lot of respect for designers or the design process.
