This summer I helped someone who needed to enter a logo design contest at her workplace. What you see is not hers (!), but the winning entry. If you are ever tempted to participate in logo design contests, keep this image as a little reminder of what can go wrong:
- Contests are usually structured so that the organizers are stuck with a
finished design, rather than having a chance to work with the designer to develop
something successful.
- Those who organize these contests often don't have a clear idea of what they want, or how they will decide upon a winner.
- Those who organize these contests are asking all but the winning designers to work for free, essentially. They don't usually have a lot of respect for designers or the design process.
